Is Your Data Really Hosted in Switzerland? What to Check Before Choosing an AI Tool

Many AI tools advertise "hosted in Switzerland" without that being the whole story. Here are the 3 questions to ask before trusting a vendor.

"Hosted in Switzerland" has become a marketing claim that almost every AI tool displays today. In reality, the picture is often more nuanced — and worth checking before you hand over sensitive data to a system you don't fully control.

The first thing to distinguish: where your data is stored, versus where the requests sent to the AI are processed. A tool might well store your files on a Swiss server, while sending every question asked to a model hosted in the United States to generate the answer. In that case, part of your information genuinely leaves Switzerland, even if the word "Swiss" appears on the tool's homepage.

The second thing to check: does your data get used to train the model. Some providers reuse exchanges by default to improve their systems, unless you explicitly opt out — when that option even exists. For an SME handling customer data, contracts or financial information, that's a point worth reading carefully in the terms of use, not just glancing at the Swiss flag at the bottom of the page.

The third thing: what happens in cases requiring extra sensitivity — medical records, legal information, HR data. Some cases justify local hosting, on your own server, rather than a third-party cloud service, even a Swiss one. It's not always necessary, but it should be available as an option if your business requires it.

At Atelier AA, Swiss hosting by default (Infomaniak) is the baseline, with the option of local deployment for cases that require it — and above all, no data is ever used to train a model without explicit written agreement. Before choosing an AI tool for your business, these three questions are worth asking the vendor directly, not just reading on their homepage.

Frequently asked

Automation, websites, and strategy: you do all three?

Yes. One studio to scope, build, and wire AI in. We start where it pays off most and keep it coherent from end to end.

Where do we start if we've never touched AI?

With a one-hour review. We identify two or three repetitive, high-volume tasks, estimate the time saved, and deploy the first automation before going further.

We already have a site and a CRM. Do you plug into those?

Yes. We work with the tools you already have rather than replacing them. The AI plugs into what's there: email, quotes, follow-ups, document extraction.
